JOB TITLE : GENERAL MANAGER

JOB STATUS : FULL TIME

Applications are invited from suitably qualified person to fill the position of General Manager at
the Nevis Co-operative Credit Union Limited.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY

The General Manager is the Accounting Manager of the Society and is responsible for directing
the day-to-day operations of the Credit Union, including planning, organising, controlling, and
coordinating all human, financial, and capital resources. This position has the responsible for the
implementation of the strategic objectives of the Credit Union under the direction of the Board of
Directors. The position is accountable for the development, evaluation and implementation of
policies and sound operating procedures in keeping with the Co-operative Societies Act, and the
regulations governing co-operative societies to ensure good controls.

Main Duties:

  •  Responsible for the strategic planning and tactical execution of the accounting,
    management, administrative and all other operations of the Credit Union in accordance
    with the society’s rules, the co-operative society’s act and the instructions of the Board
    of Directors.
  • Attend Board meetings and conjointly with the Board, develop strategic plans for the
    Credit Union inclusive of loans and short-term goals and objectives for key results
    areas.
  • Develop new policies and review existing policies in keeping with Board directives and
    regulatory requirements.
  • Prepares the Annual Credit Union Budget for approval by the Board of Directors
  • Ensure Credit Union operations are audited in accordance with the rules and that
    external audit of accounts are carried out in a timely manner.
  • Determining how to position the Credit Union in consideration of existing and emerging
    trends.
  • Conduct studies and research into credit union needs and evaluating effectiveness of
    services; continually exploring ways and means of improving and expanding the
    services of the Credit Union.
  • Ensure prudent management of all financial and other assets including investments,
    cash flow management and budgetary control.
  • Responsible for the safe custody of all funds, securities, valuable documents, and other
    assets of the Credit Union
  • Oversees the management and maintenance of the Credit Unions assets – buildings,
    car parks, equipment – by ensuring appropriate arrangements for services, including
    buildings, and security, amongst others.
  • Works closely with Supervisory Committee, Credit Committee, Education Committee,
    and other Board appointed committees to achieve the realisation of the Credit Union’s
    Strategic Objectives.
  • Maintains an effective working relationship with the Co-operative Division, Auditors,
    Bankers, and the Credit Union League.

Qualifications and Competencies

  •  Master’s degree in management studies or business administration.
  • Adequate knowledge of Credit Union Management, Finance and Accounting or a
    related discipline is a plus.
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience of leadership in a Senior Management position
    in a financial institution.
  • Employee and Member Focused and the ability to build a team of young professionals.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Analytical and detail oriented
  • Knowledge of Core Banking Softwares
  • Demonstrate performance as a solid coach, team leader, and influencer of people.
  • Training in strategic planning, financial management, credit analysis, asset liability, and
    risk management.
  • Knowledge of Financial Services Regulations and the Co-operative Societies Act.
  • Planning and organisational skills, critical thinking, analytical, problem solving and
    decision-making skills.

Salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience.
