CHARLESTOWN, NEVIS, August 31, 2022 (MMS-SKN) — The Nevis Cooperative Credit Union (NCCU) Limited which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, on Tuesday August 30 continued with its year-long monthly presentation of care packages to some of it members with presentations to four longstanding business partners as part of its year-long 50th anniversary celebrations.

“I am here today from the Nevis Cooperative Credit Union because we are celebrating our 50th anniversary this year, and as part of our celebration we are giving back to some of our members, and this month we have chosen our business partners,” said General Manager’s Executive Officer, and coordinator of the 50th Anniversary Care Packages Committee, Ms Patulia Huggins, as she made the presentation to Mr Meredith Hendrickson of Hendrickson’s Construction Services of Webb’s Ground in Gingerland.

The Nevis Co-operative Credit Union (NCCU) Limited, which is the oldest credit union in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis having been registered on July 25, 1972, is celebrating under the theme ‘Consistency, Financial Security & Serving the Community – 50 years of Development and Prosperity’.

The other business partners of the Credit Union who were honoured on Tuesday were Mr R. Stedroy Pemberton of Tip Top Construction of Hanley’s Road, Gingerland, Ms Jean Kelly of Octagon Bar, Samuel Hunkins Drive, Charlestown, and Mr Malvern Jeffers of Just Relax Charters of St. Thomas Parish.

First presentation was made to Mr R. Stedroy Pemberton by 50th Anniversary Care Packages Committee member, Credit Service Clerk, Ms Jahniel Nisbett, at the offices of the Credit Union, the Ingle Blackett Building at the corner of Chapel Street and Featherbed Alley in Charlestown. Apart from the usual care package presented to the members, they also received a certificate of appreciation.

“I have been in the business for approximately forty years or so, and my relationship with the Nevis Cooperative Credit Union Limited is since I joined 36 years ago, and I am still a member,” said Mr Pemberton. “I have a business account, and the credit union is an excellent partner in my business. The credit union stands with the ordinary persons to make sure that they have a foothold in what they are doing.”

Members of the 50th Anniversary Care Packages Committee moved to the Samuel Hunkins Drive where the Information and Communication Technology Officer, Mr Kenroy Warner, made the presentation to their business partner and proprietor of the popular Octagon Bar, Ms Jean Kelly, who has been in business for 30 years and a member of the Credit Union for over 20 years.

“I love the Credit Union because of their discipline plus they always have their members’ back,” commented Ms Kelly. “If I have a situation I would call them and they would work with me during my business schedule. I do appreciate the Credit Union for whenever I need assistance, it doesn’t really matter what time, they really do assist me – Credit Union all the way.”

In Webb’s Ground, Gingerland, Mr Meredith Hendrickson of Hendrickson’s Construction Services thanked the Nevis Cooperative Credit Union Limited, for the many years of service that it has given to him and his business of 55 years, and also for being nominated as one of the members who received the care packages in the month of August as part of the Credit Union’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

“I remember very early in the 80s, it was the lady Mrs Hanley who came by a lady up at Morning Star, where we were building a house and she came around looking for people to join the Credit Union,” remembered Mr Hendrickson as he received his certificate and care package from General Manager’s Executive Officer, Ms Patulia Huggins. “They have been supporting me, including offering loans to build my house and to buy a piece of land in the Charlestown area.”
The final presentation was done at the office by the other coordinator of the 50th Anniversary Care Packages Committee, Administrative Assistant in the Administration and Human Resource Department, Ms Tamara Johnson, to businessman Mr Malvern Jeffers of Just Relax Charters, St. Thomas Parish.

“I want to applaud the Nevis Cooperative Credit Union Limited for the milestone they have reached in these 50 years,” said an emotional Mr Jeffers who had to be supported by the two coordinators of the 50th Anniversary Care Packages Committee, Ms Tamara Johnson, and Ms Patulia Huggins.

“They have been loyal to me, working with me in difficult times and recently I was here, after going to different banks to ask for assistance but not knowing that Credit Union was the one that will continue to work with me and they did and I am happy,” said Mr Jeffers. “My business is Just Relax Charters, which does boating, taking guests out fishing and so forth. It has been a very wonderful time working with the Credit Union and for helping me to get the loan for purchasing that boat and up to and until now I am still running that business.”
